Port Douglas is an internationally renowned holiday destination in its own right. The ‘Village’, not far from the Reef Club, is home to the famous Four Mile Beach and offers visitors an abundance of first-class resort-style shopping and unique dining options to die for. Port Douglas is the closest departure point to the Great Barrier Reef and on your doorstep is the magnificent World Heritage Listed Daintree and Cape Tribulation Rainforests.
Port Douglas originated as a township as a result of the booming Hokinson gold fields and this development saw the population swell to 12000 people in 1877. Having gone through a number of name changes in its History it was finally settled on and named after a Queensland Premier John Douglas.
